Feeling flight-full :: Festival of Lights

Happy Deepawali my Peeps!

That time of the year when nothing bursts the froth of bubbling happiness & well being in my heart.

Am off to Delhi, my hometown, for Diwali & more and already "आज कल पाव ज़मीन पर नहीं पड़ते मेरे..."

Narayan's parents did a small Puja at our new apartment

The lights have been lit since :)

Tiled-in-piece

They travelled places with me;

wrapped, unpacked, put in boxes, in soft folds, unwrapped, relished when revealed,

subject of ideas, imagined murals, conjured collages,

stuff of dreams & escapades on the wall, corners, centerpieces

and finally rest(ed) in peace, piece-by-piece, in a wooden casket of Burmese origin,

of toil and labour of weeks and some.

Now standing Regal, centre staged, no more in parts, now as a Whole

bringing moodiness to all that surrounds :)

A Home in No Man's Land

Source : NYT

where the Berlin Wall stood

Am awestruck by the sheer audacity, visualization and romance of building a home of such material :-  on a stretch of land till very recently a death-strip, in such a home you live with your growing-up kids, a home designed with no particular desire to demarcate spaces or define privacy in the conventional sense; yet a Home built with an acute understanding and awe of the recent historical magnificence of the land where it stands.  As Ms. Schröder said. “Every day I look out on the foundations of a house from which people jumped from the windows to escape to the West. The paving stones my kids run over in front of our house map the route of the tunnels that were dug by people desperate to leave the G.D.R. It is living history for me.” Full article http://www.nytimes.com/2013/09/12/garden/life-without-walls.html?ref=global-home

On an iMpulSe

What : Wood and sheer poetry in carpentry
Where : ओशिवारा  लक्कढ़ बाज़ार
When: How : while on a recce, after eons!
What : What could one do with this find?
Why : *silence*

A frame for a mirror ;
a wood crafted तोरन
just a wall mount,

or just beat up self for the impulse:)

My Day in a FRame

Was one of those days - a Sunday, in a timeless sort of rhythm;
my 5-yr old and me, and an inexplicable lethargic spontaneity
waiting to burst into some expression!

The urge almost weighing me down and out of any habitual activity
(dusting, ironing, making breakfast and you know the rest),
"are you crazy to waste away in the mundane today?!!"
on a morning awash in the willfully shaded rooms, with the Sun blazing away beyond my curtains.

I took the colors out (somewhat gingerly)
and everything else that was meant to be,
and with another inexplicable urge made myself a cup-pa Coffee (i am strictly a Tea person)
Decided to give-in to the Day.

some Days are better left unquestioned or simply, just surrendered to.

I've got the bLues...

Summer's Springing at my doorstep when the Reds start to look too warm

I feel this urge to douse the warm in some cool cool hUes

so this, my friends, is of the bLues that invade me this weekend,

I allow them in -

calm, cool; in drops and shades; of the sky above,

as of the water across the end of this city - that is my Home !

Un Captionable

Fruit of temptation : My brand new Ikat printed Candle Stand
I know I'm soon shifting out and my pledge to self has been to freeze on any new additions; but tell me, tell me! - could you have resisted such gorgeous accessories, in shades that have seized your mind & being at the moment!

Ikat continues to invade my moodiness these days - from the Reds to the Blues - just a climb down to cooler climes:)

Prismma splashes Amar & Geetika's home colors!

So, my Diwali visit to Geetika & Amar's home in Noida had its culmination in Prismma's feature of their lovely home:). I'm happy as some of my favorite frames now look even more glamorous in a magazine format and more importantly, since the home owners themselves seem happy about it.

Do check out the feature in the March issue of Prismma http://www.prismma.in/tag/inspired-home-magazine/ on Page 54.

Some screen shots of the feature as prelude:

Vignettes.

Hello there,

Last afternoon and this morning I've had bouts of existential emotion around why I am neglecting loving the moments and magic of my current (rented) abode! And it all kind of came to a head when we were blessed with the first-ever tour of our very own apartment that is due to be handed over in March (oh we 're there already:)),  some emotions, light moodiness and sheer gladness in the heart!

And so through the last 24 hours, I re-dialed into my very own maxim of loving every home that I live in : the people and the moments make it and not the legal owner & the ownership equation! Sharing some moments of that 'loving' with you

I cannot help but mention how much Red dominates my color scheme of the moment! It's reflected in the glassware, in my favorite nooks, in cushions and upholstery, in art and figurines that have taken centre stage during these months! Yes I do move things around to achieve a certain mood that could be so personal and so difficult to put in words! And am loving the Red that is coming through in my frames, and in this post :
Red = Love (wink, wink!!)

My gorgeous collection of Ikat cushions that I picked up at various Sale occasions, locally. I am looking to diversify the colors & patterns, but have not found much to choose from! So if you chance upon some beautiful, colorful Ikat cushion covers, upholstery or any such do mark me in please. And it would be a dream to find some in white and pearly hues - Summer's here soon!

My treasured miniature of a Mughal painting, which I finally got framed
Paisleys and Red

He sits serene, purveys and many a times, casts his spell.

So, till the next burst of love... thanks for stopping by, my friends!

Design Bloggers enthrall

I'm always in wonderment about how some international blogs look and what some bloggers are able to do on their pages. So it was just the most perfect blessing when House Beautiful - http://www.housebeautiful.com featured top ten design blogs chosen by a host of design bloggers and contributors on design. Do check them out and relish some of the most beautifully curated blogs :

My personal favorite is this blog http://www.herriottgrace.com/blog by Herriot Grace, a venture of a father and daughter and as quintessentially put : A Savings Account for Things I Like - kind of like how I would describe my blog if I had those words! :)

Inspiration : Stunning glass sculpture

Who said you can't go ballistic in creating an office! Yes this is a private office designed by Oregon based Jessica Helgerson's design firm here at  http://www.jhinteriordesign.com/gothic-office. Stunning use of glass to create a visual partition to apparently create a 'feeling of separation' in a vast office space.

I am also stunned by the contrast with the untreated brick walls - simply theatrical impact!

Happy in 2013, a New Year

Hello there friends,

As always the first few days of this spanking new year are a whirr till I had to write down the date while filling up a certain form and wham! I realized I 'd forgotten to do one of the things that I'd always planned to do - post a New Year wish or just something that says that wishing everyone a fulfilling year has always been on my mind :)

2013, this is and should be a unique year in our lives as we get formal possession of our own Home sometime soon, than later in the year. Yes a big step for us wanderers who till now had reveled in escaping being tied-down to a piece of immovable acquisition! And so a lot of anticipation, castles in the mind and ideas swirling around creating fleeting images of how a nook, a wall would look and where to incorporate a certain something that both of us have always wanted, and zillion other visual ideas, vivid or otherwise!

So here begins a series of visuals that catch my fancy in the romantic hope of finding expression in some manner, even in a hint, in our Home and Yes the images will be in no particular order, sometimes reproduced for just the mood it evokes - enjoy !!

Oh the colors in this frame, how I hope to have some elegant pastels in some corners

Desperately looking for bookshelf ideas to house all the books that belong to the acquisitive us
