A Home Tour of colourful proportions

Came to this blogspace after years. Importantly, because I felt the need of space to say what I want to say (not ideal on Insta). And, possibly, also as the circulating hormones of a brand new 2023 are in play.

Cutting to the chase, onto the tug of space that inspired me today, we are just back from a holiday in KL, Malaysia, graciously hosted by our friends Vernika and Anshu Nahar, their kids Ira and Viraj and Bagel, their darling fur-ball. Their home is located in the quietly posh Mont Kiara, (often stylised as Mont' Kiara), an affluent suburb at the northwest of downtown Kuala Lumpurconsisting mainly of high-rise residential condominiums and office complexes, with a robust ecosystem to support all daily and social needs.

Their home-apartment, that they invested in and moved into recently, is spread over 4000 + square-feet of space, in a layout that lends as much credence to the living and kitchen or utility spaces, as to the  well-appointed bedrooms, lobbies, balcony and landing areas. For someone used to the pigeon holed expectations of Mumbai-living, it was a delirious entry into this home.

My attempt here is to share the rest of the drama of this home, in photos— the drama as much in the choice of colour on the walls, as in the choice of upholstery, contrast and detailing, and in the staging of art & artefact— a collection that they say, they are keenly building.

Mixing feminine flourishes with chic elegance into a vibrant, kaleidoscopic living space. From dramatic pops of pink, delicate tape trim details, jewel tones and florals, plush velvet, to lacquered, oriental console and sideboards, porcelain garden stools placed casually, embroidered throws for contrast and cosiness, to gorgeous Srinathhji on Pichwai -welcoming you at the entryway. Yet, the best part about this home for me is the sparse, uncluttered quality to the interiors, the unhindered flow of energy and vibe it lends to its spaces, despite the deliberate riot of colour, texture and form.

Eclectic, bold, brave and thoughtful.

As always, I am ruing the many corners and rooms that I did not click photos of. Nonetheless... enjoy the visual splash!

Of the ephemeral kind

I wonder why
this time and then again
how stuff so ephemeral,
get under the skin and make their way into
the mural of my life.

For, this my friends, is the hapless-helpless celebrant of the beautiful
who could desist if she could.

She really would
but she had to bring these pieces of Godliness
home with her,

from her walk up the path this morning.

Pink - the Rani of 'em all this season!

Is it me blushing or is a lot of Pinks & Florals casting their spell this season! A lot of the blogs that I read have the color on their current posts here, and of course here, the color & prints seem to be hueing up my home in bits in pieces and today, one of the pages I look forward to in this morning's papers just splashed the pink in holi-is-here kind of abundance!

How pretty do these florals look on this tea set !

My very own dash of Pink in my living room
Have a super Pink season, and as for me who took the Pink to be rather generic for most of my life, am quite falling over me over this new found love!!

Timeless...

Today was a perfect prelude to a weekend that promises to be lazy, today my 4-yr. old performed on stage for the very first time and how he performed!! Throats choked, hearts swelling, happy treads there on-  is how I describe the rest of the day.
So once home, when the remnant of the Mumbai winter-sun streamed into the very vibrant colors of our dining area, and onto the beautiful big roses that my Mom-in-law brought home yesterday, I just couldn't resist but pick up my camera and capture all that golden radiance of a timeless day.

The Nest our next

Knock, knock
@The Nest (end 2006 to mid 2008) - nestled in the heart of Catholic Bandra, in the quiet lane right behind Mehboob Studio, where very few of the original bungalows have fallen prey to gluttonous builder-development. Thanks to the prosperity & pride of the Mumbai Catholics, the colony stands manicured, landscaped almost pristine and we became quite respectful of them, living amongst them. The Nest - this barely 3-storey building with one apartment each floor, big balconies, windowsills with small patio-like extensions and brilliant grill work overlooking Gulmohars, Peepal and Coconut Palms. And incessant bird chirps!

Conjugal trimmings

long view of my living area
Leapfrogging to 2005 and Narayan (we marry in Nov 2005) and I attempt to assimilate the possessions of two successfully living alone & acquisitive individuals. The attempt was carried out in this lovely modern studio-ish apartment on Bandra Mount Mary road. The apartment came with its own very contemporary furniture, some of which we retained on the pretext of spring cleaning some furniture- aberrations acquired over the years. Couple of single friends bought off some of the duplicate possessions and under God's keen eye the integration seemed well on its way.

Pinks & Purples entered my home scheme

The bookshelf created a divide between the living area and open kitchen
Finally a bed in my home
I'm searching for the pictures of one of the most fascinating aspects of this apartment - the bathroom attached to the master bedroom. Electric blue in theme, small tiles in hues of that blue on the floor and parts of the wall, pristine white fittings to offset all that blue! Still looking and am sure I got them somewhere since I wanted to copy parts of it when I build my own!
